Greetings Friends,

Social Forestry: Tending the Land as People of Place is a new book from Tomi Hazel Vaarde. We are in the last week of the crowdfunding campaign which is being released soon by Synergetic Press.

There are people who put a lot of work into this project that were not in the publisher’s budget, and we want to pay the Illustrators, photographer and others for their efforts. In addition, the campaign is an opportunity to buy the book directly from Siskiyou Permaculture. Hazel will get about 10 times more if folks buy it through the campaign than if purchased through any other venue. We will not be selling the book online after the campaign

There’s lots of information about the book on the Indiegogo Page. We hope you will support this work by donating and/or pre-ordering the Social Forestry book now.

With deep gratitude for your help with the campaign,

Melanie, Karen and Hazel

The PDC is the foundational course for permaculture education.  This is where you learn where you learn the breadth and depth of permaculture thinking and how to plan permaculture projects.  Offered over 6 weekends, our 12 day PDC focuses on regional approaches and always gets rave reviews.

Siskiyou Permaculture has helped farmers, urban homesteaders, natural product businesses and community organizers to not only improve their activities, but to be more clear about their mission and how their work fits into the ongoing maintenance of resilience on this planet.  Many of our previous students are now fully engaged in important projects and some of them are working with us on ecovillages, farms and forestry.  Some of our previous students have gone on to become illustrious permaculturists in their own right.

The PDC is a survey course in which we cover a wide range of subjects.  You will learn useful terminology, concepts, patterns and principles. You will do a design project that includes mapping, planning, visioning.  We will be supporting you with links to educational materials, handouts, access to tools, books and mentoring.  There will be hands-on practice in surveying, mapping, plant identification, plant selection and soils.  Our course is focused on the Siskiyou region of nCA and S OR, and you will be learning lots of local information that will help you understand this wonderful place we live.

As you may have noticed, the nature of our times is change!  This course is a basket of tools and ideas that will contribute to re-localization and a wonderful grounded life in place.

Hello, It's been a few months since you posted but I'm just seeing it now. I started on-line partner searching recently and rapidly found that virtually no matches come up for key words of permaculture, homesteading, organic gardening, farming. I live in Ashland, Oregon and am seeking to live in an ecovillage situation. Maybe this can happen near here; that would be great I love this area and am deeply connected. Maybe not. I'm pretty committed to the west coast. I'm a permaculture teacher, 59 years old, active in my community, enjoy intelligent conversation, dancer. Probably won't check my PM so you can see more about me and message me on FB. Melanie Mindlin. Good luck to you Viking.
