Welcome from another Canadian! I'm a transplant from Ontario to New Brunswick where my partner and I just bought land. We are very much interested in making the land a good habitat for native plants and animals as well!

I believe the nitrogen primarily promotes the green parts of the plant, i.e. you wouldn't want to add urine when your plants are fruiting

Is a synthetic*

A paper mill felt is a synthetic material. Its a water abosrbent "fabric" that is pressed down against the sheet of paper after it's been formed to dewater it. I would expect that, yes, it's saturated in chemical. Depending on what mill it's coming out of (OCC vs virgin, chemical pulping vs mechanical)so probably not the ideal garden material

Some of the leaves of my cherry tree are curled up and when I look inside I see these little black bugs that I believe are aphids. What's the best way to deal with them?

My partner and I started getting into gardening over the summer of 2020, and it's only grown into a desire to grow and forage food in a sustainable (and constructive) way with the environment. We have aspirations of a chunk of land that we can tend to and develop permaculturally.
