Thanks so much for that suggestion.  I did find some of that mesh, but I'm not sure if a steel plate would be better for this application.  Perhaps it has nothing to do with heat transfer anyway, just something to keep the blanket protected.  I just would like to know if anyone else used a steel plate and how it worked out for them.  Maybe I wouldn't need anything at all between the ceramic blanket and the cast iron top, but that mesh was there for some reason.

Thanks

I just re bricked and re-roped my stove and when I inspected under the top heat exchange plate  I noticed that the wire mesh that sits on top of the baffle blanket  had all disintegrated.  I have not been able to find the high heat mesh anywhere and wondered if it would be OK to just replace it with a thin stainless steel plate?  Would anyone know if this would keep the heat from radiating more than a mesh, or perhaps the steel plate would be better?

Thanks for any input or opinions you could give me.
