I just re bricked and re-roped my stove and when I inspected under the top heat exchange plate  I noticed that the wire mesh that sits on top of the baffle blanket  had all disintegrated.  I have not been able to find the high heat mesh anywhere and wondered if it would be OK to just replace it with a thin stainless steel plate?  Would anyone know if this would keep the heat from radiating more than a mesh, or perhaps the steel plate would be better?

Thanks for any input or opinions you could give me.

Hi Steve and big welcome to Permies!

I have no idea exactly what your looking for but did remember that a fellow recently posted a source for titanium mesh that may (or may not) be something you may want to consider.

high heat mesh

Good luck with repairing your stove.

Thanks so much for that suggestion.  I did find some of that mesh, but I'm not sure if a steel plate would be better for this application.  Perhaps it has nothing to do with heat transfer anyway, just something to keep the blanket protected.  I just would like to know if anyone else used a steel plate and how it worked out for them.  Maybe I wouldn't need anything at all between the ceramic blanket and the cast iron top, but that mesh was there for some reason.

Thanks
