Glad you appreciate it! And yes, it would be quite the challenge out there with 6 kids!

Absolutely beautiful place and great location just South of the Great Lakes winter cloud belt.  Best of luck, someone will be lucky to find this.

Thanks for the kind words, Jeff!

Looking for a long term renter for my 2br, 1 bath Homestead, ideally 3-5+ year lease. Located 45 mins south of Chillicothe, just outside of Beaver, Ohio

Unique fully off grid Homestead on 18 acres in Southern Ohio. Off-Grid Solar, compost toilet, rain water catchment, propane cooktop, and wood cookstove that heats house in winter. Home is ecologically designed and best suited for 1-2 people.

2 ponds, 1 stocked with fish, 1 seasonal frog pond, 6 acre field and 12 acres of woods to explore. Small young orchard and 15 blueberry bushes. Property has not been sprayed with chemicals in the 12 years that I've owned it

Ford 8n tractor and farming implements available for use.

Very High speed internet available if you want/need to be connected for work.

Tenant would need to mow and weedeat approximately 1 acre, and do general upkeep on off-grid solar, compost, and water systems.

$1200/month. Property can't be insured due to wood cookstove, so large deposit ($7500) and renters insurance would be required at time of lease. Additionally, I will lead a woodstove safety training.

Open to short-term trial periods to make sure it is a good fit for you (weekend, up to a month)

Good luck.
I am surprised to see no insurance because of the wood fire.
Is that a blanket rule?

Thanks! It's an Ohio thing and because of my distance to the nearest fire department.

Also, it might be notable that we oiled and waxed the floor before plastering the walls. I put down plastic to protect the floors, but ultimately they got pretty messy from plastering the walls.

I then stripped the floor, added more linseed oil (waited to dry) then waxed.....

Are earthen floors something you can strip and refinish? Is this where I went wrong?

I waited 2-3 weeks before waxing. Also, another friend said he applied the wax the exact same way and had no problems. He did wait 1 month for his linseed oil to cure though

We built an earthen floor, sealed it with linseed oil (let it dry) and then put on a few coats of wax. All was well until summertime when warm temperatures and high humidity have made the floor very sticky. I assumed I put too much wax on. I can't seem to get the stickiness to go away, despite renting a floor buffer and trying mineral spirits and a vinegar water cleaning solution.

Has anyone else had this issue? Any ideas? I'm at a loss here.

Thanks,

Matt
