Currently, the only livestock I have are chickens.  They won't the foliage, or at least, mine won't.  I've had issues with sunchokes spreading when using the biomass as mulch.  I have a pretty big pile drying on a tarp until I figure out what to do.  I already have more of these things than I could ever hope to use.  I'm thinking about burning it and using the ash somewhere on the property.

I'm looking for a good source for bees for next season.  I'm new at this.  I do currently own a 10 frame Langstrom style hive that is new.  I've told buying a nuc is probably the best way to go for a new guy, with a brand new hive.  Bees are the next step to really making things click around here.  I'm in Missouri.

I've only had mine about a week.  So far, I like it.  The initial push for using non-tap water was for fermenting veggies.  I intended to get one over a year ago but the covid issue kinda messed up supply for my local shop.  I'm pretty sure I can tell a difference in quality over distilled, which is what I was buying.  Coffee is better with the Berkey and I don't mess around with my coffee.

Pictures at some point, more than likely.  I'm on a new computer and trying to work through all of my older stuff working.  I use an older Nikon digital for my web pics, rather than my phone.

I had a couple of Maples that were older and on their way out and a power company butchered pine taken out a few weeks back.  In the discussion of al of that, I made a free wood chip mulch connection.

I didn't mention we've got 11 chickens as well.  Ducks next year as well as bees are the plan.  Ducks and chickens will be allowed access to different parts of the property at different times.  I don't think I'll keep them together, mainly because my current coop setup tops out at 15 birds.  Plus, ducks should be better around the younger fruit trees.

We've currently got planted, but not necessarily mature

2 Plums, 2 Sweet Cherries, 1 Sour Cherry, 4 Peaches, 3 Pears, 2 Figs, 1 Nectarine, 1 Plumcot, 7 Apples, 1 Hazelnut, a gigantic nut producing Black Walnut, 2 Paw Paws, 1 Japanese Persimmon, several varieties of Raspberries, a couple varieties of Blackberries, a couple of varieties of Elderberry, a couple varieties of sunchokes.  Most of this is planted in a food forest/fruit tree guild with stuff like Yarrow, Coneflowers, Bee Balm.  We've also got 11 laying hens.

As usual, this is a work in progress that started slowly about 10 years ago.

Hi there.  My friends pretty much all just call me G.  The wife and I are in the Kansas City metro area.  I got into permaculture type of stuff a few years ago, yet just stumbled onto this site.  New computers and searches bring out new results sometimes.  We have a lot in a neighborhood that's about 3/4 of an acre.  Where we're at a person can have chickens, ducks and rabbits but nothing larger.  The city allows livestock depending on lot size.  If the animal has hooves you need a minimum of 2 acres.
