I have gone ahead and planted the two that I found to have sprouted in pots under growlights, and the ones that haven't sprouted can wait so yes, I'll have an A/B test, I guess. One had a pretty huge taproot already so it probably was a good idea, will be interested to see how they fare with such a long season, and if I end up with a few new trees at the end, that would be great, even if some future generation will probably be the one to benefit most (yeah, should've done this 30 years ago, what you gonna do)!

Suggestion: keep your grow light a little closer than usual. And run a box fan once it gets a little woody. Keeping the light a little closer will help prevent everything from growing too tall too quick.  if worried you will get too close and burn ‘em, you can pickup cheap Mylar sheeting off Amazon and create an area where the light comes from all around.

So I have been thinking of putting a few almond trees on my new property in 5b, PA about an hour south of Lake Erie. Besides the late frost everyone keeps mentioning, fungus is not your friend. One of the biggest problems with almonds outside arid areas is humidity and the fact fungus loves almond trees as much as you do.  Check MIGardner for in information on chemical free spray techniques to protect the trees best as possible. They are located in Michigan, obviously, and I’m not sure if the have even attempted almonds, but their peaches and other trees thrive better than most people’s. Hell for help with anything plant related that’s my normal spot to look.  Also remember that almonds trees drink about 10x’s what most other trees drink so a stable on ground water source is helpful.  Curious if any of the original posters tried and had luck with their trees.
