Hello I'm 58 years old and living alone in a rural area in Kentucky. I don't worry about humans predators because I have a gun and a couple of dogs. The dogs are good guardian and she sleeps near my dome at night. I also have signs posted of video cameras and private property. My biggest challenge is finding help. I am building my dome with cob all by myself and I live in 8 acres. My neighbors are old and they can't do much and yes they live 1/ miles from me. Maintaining the acreage is thought and growing in my greenhouse as well since alot of its work in progress. I have different projects to make it self-sufficient but alone it's hard cause sometimes I just need a pair of extra hands. I raise rabbits chicken and quails I also can and quilt, I live off the grid no electricity but I do have city water and helps alot.  So my 2 cents it's yes get a good dog doesn't have to be big. Mines are norwegian elkhohound,  very loyal, easy to train very smart and they don't eat much easy to handle cause they don't weigh much and they very agile.  They kill snakes raccoons possum and deer if I let them.  I been alone for 8 years and try different dogs and norwegian elkhohound has been my best choice. I hope this helps.

I love my piece of 8 acres in Kentucky and I'm building a 40ft geodesic dome,  covering it with Adobe and a solar system.  My biggest challenge has been finding helping hands cause the area I live in they don't believe in this type of construction, and even when I paid helpers the really don't work cause they think playing with mud it's a child's play, but I'm not giving up cause I have a vision of what want there is also the plan of heating my dome with a rocket mass heaters as well. I wish I could load pictures but the website won't allow me the button for choose files it's not working . Littlewolf
