I bought a couple of trees last Spring, a northern James pecan and a hi-can hybrid.
I put them in the ground in early April. It’s now September and neither of them emerged from dormancy. Summer is effectively over here, with nights dipping into the 40’s and daytime highs in the mid to upper 80s on the hottest days.
Inner cambium is green on both, so they seem to still be alive, but no sign of any growth, above-ground at least.
I live in zone 5b, and both are rated down to at least zone 5.
My question- could they survive the winter to emerge from dormancy next year if they never emerged from dormancy this year?
Anyone had this before?
