The body shape and paws strike me as a burrowing animal. I can't really see the nose in the photo. A juvenile most likely? That's my best guess.

Edit: looking at mole photos online, i'm doubtful that's what it is. Hm.

The head has been partially eaten so I was unable to take a picture of the face/nose. Could it be an infant puppy perhaps...maybe taken by a bird and dropped on my patio?

I found this small animal dead on my backyard patio. I'm not sure what it is and was wondering if anyone has any idea on what it could be. I was thinking baby rat but I believe the tail is too small. I'm located in southern ontario. The size is about 4 to 5 inches. Thanks
