Has anyone had any success with planting/keeping alive fruit trees in the Willow/Talkeetna/Trapper Creek area? If so, what kind? and how did you do it? I know fruit trees are hard to keep going up here, and I know a few people who have had their trees die on them. Any tidbits of wisdom are appreciate.

Hello all,

I am very new to homesteading in Alaska. Down the road, I'd like to raise animals for dairy (and maybe fiber), and it seems like goats are hardy creatures in general. Before I get my hopes up, has anyone else had success raising goats in the Willow/Talkeetna/Trapper Creek area of Alaska? What species did you raise? What were some things you had to watch out for? For reference, I have 5 acres (3 of which are flat-ish).

I ask because google searches make it look like just about anything is possible, but I've been bitten before trying things that google said was easy but locals said it was stupid. Just looking for any tidbits of wisdom that folks are willing to share. Thanks!
