*Are you ready for a change in your life?
*Are you looking for a place to have your own organic garden?
*Do you enjoy caring for chickens, dogs and cats?
*Do your yearn to live in a quiet place in the wilderness (yet close to a small town with most amenities)?
*Do you dream about living in an historic, comfortable log cabin overlooking mountains and meadows?
*Are you ready for sun and blue skies in the summer, snow in the winter, and crisp air and fall colors in the autumn?
*Do you like to work hard, enjoy being outdoors, have a positive attitude, and like an adventure?

If so, this opportunity might be for you.

We are a retired professional couple who strive to lead a more sustainable life: growing and preserving much of our own food; producing a lot of our own power and heat; raising chickens, dogs and cats; and trying to be good stewards of our beautiful piece of property.

We are looking for someone to help around the homestead in exchange for a place for your own garden and a  log cabin for you to call home.

Let us know if you’d like to discuss this further.

Where we live, in addition to all the wonderful ideas shared here already, we need to consider wildfire risks. Part of each summer is spent "fire-wising," which includes thinning stands of trees, removing lower branches, taking down dead trees (except those that appear to be home to some critters), and clearing wood debris from the ground. We get some pretty scary fires here.

I have had type 2 for 20 years and have learned a lot. Here are some of them:
1. There are countless types of type 2. Rarely do two people have the same conditions. As such, there is no right way, only the way that works for you
2. What works today may not work in the future; it is a moving target
3. It can be a very complicated condition. The solutions thus can be complicated
4. Multiple factors should be included in the solutions. Among the most important are diet and exercise. One without the other will not likely be enough
5. I do not have a sweet tooth, but I love starchy carbs like rice, bread, potatoes, etc. These are horrible for me.
6. My morning meal consists of lots and lots of stir fry veggies mixed with sausage and eggs. I eat this over a few hours
7. In the morning I use an online personal trainer for exercise
8. Mid-day meals might include yogurt and homemade applesauce, tuna salad, peanut butter on celery, or....
9. Early afternoon walk for several miles
10. Dinner is fish or meat with lots of veggies including a big salad
11. Snacks are mostly peanuts in the shells
12. We focus on homegrown and homemade whenever possible, and local and organic otherwise

Best wishes on this journey!!

This topic gets more and more relevant for me as time marches on. Old age just came up and bit me in the backside about a decade ago. This was accelerated by a few major health issues. With those behind me, it is full speed ahead. Yet we need help around the homestead.

We had a young person living in our rebuilt log cabin for a few years, and she helped a lot around here. She fell in love and hit the road to explore her world with her partner. Now we are trying to find someone else. This is no easy task. Living on acreage deep in the Cascade Mountains in Washington, living in a somewhat rustic environment, and performing classic homesteader tasks, is not for everyone.

But God is good. We are doing just finer and enjoying this wonderful way of life.

Susanna,
We live on an ancient homestead and are seeking a "homestead helper." This could include the use of a recently rebuilt 130 year-old log cabin. We grow much of our own food, have chickens and dogs. We are in a stunning valley in the heart of the Cascade Mountains. Most of our neighbors have either two wings or four legs. Would love to talk to you about this opportunity. Thanks, Dave and Nancy
