I live in NW Indiana and use the net to keep cabbage moths out. No trees or sticks anywhere near to the net. The russian red kale does get tall and maybe rubbing on the net

Hi everyone.
I use netting for my kale, which has worked great the past 2 years. This season I noticed 2 small holes in the net. Any thoughts on how this happened. This is a new net from spring. I’m in NWIndiana and use this to keep out cabbage moths.

Hi everyone,

My Chicago figs are arriving today. I was planning to plant them in a row to help shade part of the front lawn of my house. The problem is that I was planning to plant them pretty close to where the gas line runs (underground) up from the street. I know some plants like to grab and wrap around water and sewage pipes, which can cause lots of damage. Do you think I have anything to worry about with Chicago Figs planted directly above or very near to an underground gas line?

Thank you!

Hi Everyone!

I bought a new set of heat lamps bulbs for my chicks, but they both burned out in less than 3 weeks. Has anyone else had issues with heat lamp bulbs? These were from Runnings.

We also have a fan circulating and were previously on heat mats to germinate. Would you recommend keeping the heat mats on after they have already germinated?

We started soil blocking this year with very good results. Have you considered getting a soil blocker?

Hello everyone. I am having some kind of issue with my Paste tomatoes. The look like they have some kind of edema and I don't know why this is happening. It doesn't happen to my other tomatoes. It also happened last year with different seeds from a different seed company. This year we also started soil blocking and all our plants are doing much much better. Please see pictures for reference.

Thank you everyone!

Hi everyone,

I have been using heat lamp bulbs for my chicks the past 3 years, but I often have trouble sleeping with those bulbs on at night since people say they cause fires.
I usually buy new bulbs ever year (2 batches of chicks) so that the glass doesn't get too weak and break.

This year I am considering buying a Ceramic heater similar to the Sweeter Heater brand, but much cheaper.

Does this look any safer? Or do you have any other safer options?

I have a cat and he catches a few voles, but not all of them.
Hi everyone,

We are doing soil blocks for the first time this year, but our cabbage seedlings are always leggy. When I grew them in pots I would grow them in the lower portion and then add soil until they reached just under the first leaves, but with soil blocks that can't really work.

Does anyone have advice?
