Hi everyone,

My Chicago figs are arriving today. I was planning to plant them in a row to help shade part of the front lawn of my house. The problem is that I was planning to plant them pretty close to where the gas line runs (underground) up from the street. I know some plants like to grab and wrap around water and sewage pipes, which can cause lots of damage. Do you think I have anything to worry about with Chicago Figs planted directly above or very near to an underground gas line?

Thank you!

They can run deep. I wouldn't put them close to any underground lines myself.

I’m not sure they would wrap around a pipe, but I do know figs have very tenacious fibrous roots. I’ve had little fig saplings pop up 50 plus feet form my tree.

I agree. Here's the link: http://stoves2.com
