I have these in my freezer, but just wrote "salt water" on the labels My friend said 1/4 cup salt per gallon bottle. He used this method when the power was out in NC after the hurricane and said it really helped.  Thanks for reminding me about removing the blanket if the freezers are running!

I really like this Wood Oyl for butcher blocks, cutting boards and wooden utensils:

The other Kramer wood products are fantastic, as well! This is a small company and it feels good to support them.

Mikes Garage wrote:If you are looking more for a DIY setup you might look into a Hybrid Inverter and 48V floor standing batteries.  Ecoflow makes great products, but it is a little pricier than other options.

Yeah, I thought about that, Mike, and decided I wasn't cut out for it. Also, I want to avoid floor batteries, since I don't have anywhere to put them.

Thanks for the ideas.

Joshua,

This was very enlightening. I was looking at the EcoFlow Pro Ultra. Bigger than the 3:

7.2kW output per unit, scalable to 21.6kW, supporting heavy loads like 4-ton air conditioners
Start with 6kWh and expand to 90kWh, adapting to household size or energy demand
20 ms auto-switchover, 12 customizable circuits with single-circuit control by using the EcoFlow Smart Home Panel 2
5.6kW-16.8kW solar input. One hour of solar for one day of power
Compatible with 3-12kW portable gas generators for extended power outages
PowerPulse EV Charger (9.6kW) delivers 35 miles per hour. With DELTA Pro Ultra and Smart Home Panel 2, turning solar into mileage

The stackable batteries really allows for flexibility, but I totally understand your situation with the solar panels. I have 3600W of solar on my roof, and the Ultra would allow me to hook it up, but I think I prefer a Tesla Powerwall3, which will run my whole house, and still recharge. It's just easier, no switching required. That makes a big difference if I'm not around and my partner is facing a hurricane.

That had occurred to me but the pulp is pretty bitter.

I puree limes and lemons, peels and all  in the Vitamix, then strain the pulp out and freeze the juice for limeade or lemonade. Does anyone have a suggestion for using the pulp? It smells so good and I'd just like to have one more use for it before it goes in the compost.
Thanks in advance!

I have reservations about the accuracy of this book, at least as far as its touting Erythrina berteroana as edible. Where I live it's always been pointed out as toxic and when I look it up, this seems to be common knowledge. Green Deane, however says the young leaves and flowers can be eaten after boiling for 15 minutes. https://www.eattheweeds.com/tag/erythrina-berteroana/

I do think this book should make it clear that other parts of the plant ARE toxic and that it needs appropriate preparation.

Thanks, Thomas! I don't plan to go crashing through heavy brush, but do you think they'd tear just going through some light alders?

Hi,

I'm headed to Alaska in September. It's going to be cool and wet. I'm looking for suggestions on brands of rain gear that's light, waterproof, and fits over other clothing.
I expect to carry it in my pack with other gear, so it should be pretty light.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.
