Hi everyone,

I am looking for someone that would be interested in helping a single mother as a homestead support worker.

I need to find someone who can act as a nanny for < 3 year old, work alongside mom on the organic homestead in rural Alaska, and be a family support system on the homestead/during travel. The homestead is located 4-6 hours away from Juneau, Alaska. We need someone who enjoys living and working in a rural, off-grid environment.

The position is needed to start in early October. It can be short-term, with potential for a more long-term agreement.

An on-grid, private townhome, car, and food are provided as a part of the contract and an hourly salary is to be provided as compensation based on previous experience.

Couples would be considered if one partner has carpentry, plumbing, and/or electrical experience, as the rural town is in big need of these services, including the homestead in question.

The childcare/family support position would be a full-time, sole-employment commitment.

Feel free to comment if you're interested or have questions and I can provide more details upon request.

Thanks!

This is not your average nanny job.

We are seeking a dedicated, adventurous, and resilient nanny to join our family full-time in rural Alaska. You’ll live and travel alongside a parent and child, spending time off the grid while also having the stability of a townhome on-grid as your base.

A couple will be considered, especially if one partner brings handyman or trade skills as there’s plenty of opportunity for work both in town and on the property.

What the Job Looks Like
Full-time role as nanny and family support
Frequent travel with the parent and child
Long stretches of rural, off-grid, hard living
Regular assistance on a remote property outside of town (think homesteading duties)
Townhome on-grid provided as a city base
Use of a car, home, and food included

Who Thrives Here
Someone who enjoys a wilderness, rural, homesteading lifestyle
Physically active and comfortable with outdoor living, camping, and rugged conditions
Flexible, adaptable, and resourceful in unpredictable settings
Bonus skills: early childhood education or bilingual abilities

Who Should Not Apply
Anyone seeking a standard nanny job in the city
People with no childcare experience
If comfort and convenience are top priorities
If “remote” or “hard living” sounds daunting instead of exciting

Why This Job is Different
This is more than just providing childcare — it’s becoming part of a family and fully embracing the Alaskan wilderness lifestyle. For the right person, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live an adventurous, purpose-driven life in Southeast Alaska.

Prospective start date: October 10th, 2025
This is a paid position, compensation to be determined based on experience.
