Biography
Hello! I am a permie at heart. I think I have been all my life and never realized it, until recently. I have always been at home outside, camping, hiking, and (attempting) to grow my own food. Of late, I have ached to be outside, in the dirt, creating/building/growing something. I take care of my 10yo grandson and we love nature in all its beauty. I am instilling in him a love for Earth, himself and others. I hope to find a home to reconnect with Nature, others and myself. I no longer am on the prescribed path, but am taking the path I should have taken to begin with.

I am pretty good at reading people--and many, many times they just tell me things.  This happens both in and out of school.  Maybe my superpower would be that I could read minds

Hhmmm...  I think mine would be... that's a hard one!!  I'll have to get back on this one!!  LOVE IT!  --Tess

How about to be able to see four dimensionally which plants are going to thrive and which fail? I'm getting better at it, but am always hopeful I'm wrong!

Or better yet, the ability to communicate with plants to discuss their wishes and which ones are feeling super powerful and abundant, and which ones would like to rest for a season thank you very much

Oooohh!!! LOVE THIS ONE!!  Talk to plants... Oh the amazing things we'd learn!  --Tess

Nancy Reading wrote:HI Gauri, are you using desktop or mobile view?
In desktop view as Tess said if you go to your profile page (click on your name by your post, or it will be at top right as a link to) then you should see your current scavenger hunt as per the links Anne gave.
It may be different in mobile view?

Yeaaahh, I didn't think of that Nancy.  Thanks for adding that!!  I'm on a laptop right now, so I didn't even think about that.  --Tess

I keep getting girl-bot invitations to do a scavenger hunt and have NO IDEA whatsoever how or why to do this!

Gauri, some of the scavenger hunt is done w/o you even realizing it.  Each time you post, each time you give a like or receive one.  They add up and count towards the levels of the hunts.  You can find it when you click on your account pic and it's on the left side.  You may have to click a little icon to drop it down.

I'm having a blast now that I know.  Enjoy!!  --Tess

Thank you….but…..I STILL don’t get it! I went to opening page. Looked at all the left side icons and don’t find anything that makes sense to me about a scavenger hunt! Grrrrrrr

When you go to your icon in the top right corner (your name), you click on 'view' and it will take you to your profile. On the left side, you should see 'Scavenger hunt' if you scroll some.  --Tess
I have a tiny wardrobe now.  A few pairs of jeans, two dresses I can wear year round, several flannels and three turtle necks. All my clothes I can 'summerize' or 'winterize' as needed.  I have my cold gear (coats, earmuffs, mittens, etc.) and my summer gear (cargo shorts, a few sleeveless shirts) and then my basics: soft wool socks, under clothes (undies & a few thin Ts for layers if necessary).

I used to have enough clothing to where I only had to wash laundry twice a month.  Now, I just wear my tiny wardrobe several times before I wash (except the under clothes), and I am much the happier for it.  I also have several pieces I have had for at least 3 years.  So I don't toss or give away clothes unless I have to.  I do recycle/repurpose if I can.

I have leaned to the natural fibers in the last year or so.  I have a few yoga pants I got about 4 years ago, I will wear those till there are holes in them.  I go 100% cotton.  It is hard to find quality 100% any quality fiber where I shop (always thrifts first, then box stores as a last resort). Some of my clothes are a blend, but I go as LOW as I can on synth materials as possible.

I do the best I can within my circumstances.  That's all we can do.  Get better where we can and do our best for the rest.  I do sew some of my clothes after I buy. I prefer men's shirts, for some reason, they seem better quality.  I make a few tucks & darts and they fit like a glove. But I buy "new" clothes maybe once a year or as needed if I need to replace a piece.  Having the small amount of clothing I have, I have to make things last as long as possible.  --Tess

I tried a few homeschool groups near me and they seemed 'exclusive'. I get not knowing the newbie, but snubbing is a big red flag for me. Kids & adults were doing it.  It 's hard to find a friendly group w/o the drama of clique-iness.  We are all HS b/c we want better for our kiddos, not the same sh*t they got at B&M.  We attend events at the library, local events in the community; but we experience too much 'ick' in formal groups.

We have our own adventures, experiences and learning well enough on our own right now.  But it would be nice for Mi and me to have some connections at some point.  I am not too desperate yet, as to just put up with the snark, but I really want him to have a few good friends, too.  -Tess

I live in a mild climate, but it's very wet in the winter. I finally learned that for it to grow well, it needs to be against the south wall of the house, protected from the worst of the winter wet.

I don't know where you are Tess, but consider what micro-ecosystems are available to you, and maybe you can choose a spot it will like better, as well as being patient with it?

Good to know the direction best for growing.  I have a friend who has a HUGE rosemary bush right next to her front door and it is LOVELY.  We get wet winters here, where I am as well.  We do get some low temps, maybe a blast of snow or a storm, but mostly chill & wet.

As of right now, I am apartment living and had terrible luck growing her in containers.  I started off with small ones, then moved to larger ones.  I think I just didn't have the depth of knowledge I needed at the time.  I spoke with the growers at the farmer's market and tried to get some insight, but they weren't helpful.  I want to try again, but will be taking the time to better understand the plant.  I love growing herbs as they have SO many uses, IF I can actually get them to grow.

I feel horrible when I lose a plant, like I 'wasted' its life.  But I don't want to give up, I want to get better.  Something someone once said to me is that container gardening is more difficult than ground growing b/c the soils are so different in relation to nutrients & micro growth.  I may have to be patient until I can get a spot to grow my own food, at least some of it.  --Tess
I'd love to have my 10 (almost 11) yo grandson join in if this is still an interest.  He JUST found his love for reading and his writing could definitely use practice.  PM if anyone would like to join us.  We love nature, card & board games, hiking & camping and going on adventures.  We love reading adventure books and he loves to swim.  He also loves to draw and build with legos.   --Tess
