This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEM curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in Woodland Care.

Firewood warms you seven times (by my count).  Splitting it by hand is good exercise and builds some innate knowledge of how trees are put together.  Let's get some experience splitting wood by hand!

Here's a pretty good video with a bunch of splitting tips:

You will need to split and stack at least one full cord.  A cord is 4' by 4' by 8' of firewood.  The length of the pieces doesn't calculate into this measurement.  So you need to cut, split and stack 128 cubic feet of firewood.

Minimum requirements:
  - Cut downed trees into firewood
        - Lengths all fall within a 1" window
  - Split firewood
        - No piece bigger than 6" square
  - Stack it so it won't fall over
  - 1 full cord

Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 min):
  - Some of the tree(s) you'll be cutting up
  - Rounds at the chopping station
  - Stack started
  - Stack completed
  - View down both sides showing the pieces are all within a 1" length range
  - Dimensions showing it's a full cord

These aren't just sunglasses. They are a coolness prosthetic. For this tiny ad:
