This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEM curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in Tool care.

Hand planes are a very handy tool as you get into finer wood working.  Nearly all the time you come across a plane it's dull and couldn't cut cold butter.  Let's learn how to sharpen and tune a plane!

Here's a video of what we're after:

Minimum requirements:
 - Sharpen and tune a hand plane that has at least a 7" long body
     - Metal or wood body

Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 min):
 - Wood shaving from the dull plane
 - Action shot of sharpening iron
 - Closeup view of the sharp iron
 - Closeup view of a very thin shaving midway through the stroke on the right side of the plane
 - Closeup view of a very thin shaving midway through the stroke on the left side of the plane showing it matches the right side
