Hi all,

I have this vision of buying 50 to 100 acres in Tennessee and building 20 beautiful rammed earth (or another natural material) 2-3 bedroom houses on the land... And equipping them with composting toilets, solar power, starlink internet, etc, so that anyone (especially remote workers) could spend up to a month there comfortably.

One of the houses would be for an on-the-property host (maybe a role filled by a family). I'm looking for a partner or partners to provide the labor and know-how when it comes to building the homes, (and clearing trees/creating a path), while I would cover the cost of the land and materials for building the homes. I'm looking at a 2 year timeline to have the funds available for a project like this.

Is this idea crazy? Would you or someone you know be interested in this? As for how the profits would be divided, I'm thinking of something like a shares system, where shares in the business are distributed to everyone who has a hand in the development of the property, in proportion to their contribution.

I am interested, though at this point in my life I have no idea how I could ever make it work (already pretty entrenched where I am, with house/wife/kids/etc. and no plans to move, actually plans to stay put). But please consider my interest evidence that you will attract interest from others who possess a more realistic chance of getting involved in the way you describe.

(In two years who knows what can happen. Maybe at some point, I could provide labor or other input, in some capacity, with a share of net profits proportionate to that?)

Anyway good luck, this sounds like a really cool idea!

I appreciate your responses, thank you so much! If anyone ever happens to come across this thread in the future, please reach out to me. Another thought that I had was to partner with someone with the building know-how, while I also find a way to obtain unskilled manpower to help with the project (whether in the form of partnering with a school, or finding people who will contribute sweat equity).

Hello Jack! Very intrigued by your lovely idea, I'd be interested in connecting more with you. I have experience with natural building and looking to immerse myself into a project like this...

Hi Jack,

What a fun idea! I have a little experience in natural building - cob, strawbale, and superadobe - and am looking into further certifications and education for the year ahead. It is my hope to be involved in longer-term natural and sustainable building projects such as this. It would be great to connect to learn more about your project ideas, timeline, and if there is any way I could be of service. I hope to hear from you soon!

With gratitude,
Abby

Finally getting out to bootcamp for a 14week stay, going to be focusing on as much construction skills as I can while I'm there, and have a few projects in the PNW I'll be helping with after I get done.

My personal goal is to travel to projects and help them get buildings and systems installed.

When you have stuff to build out, I'll be interested in helping!

Brian

Are you still looking for help?  I'm a carpenter and I dabble in a few other trades as well.  I would like to know more about your project.

Sounds like an awesome project. I guess you could count me as interested in being part of that sweat equity. I’m an experienced builder and contractor spanning most residential trades. I don’t have experience with natural building yet other than lashing together some tree forts, but would love to learn. Living in WNC right now. I’ll follow this post to see if anything develops!

I have also had this idea stewing in the back of my mind for a few years.

Finally found a place and got my offer accepted on 80 acres in the Ozarks.  Would love to connect with others on what is working for them as I have been working out some ambitious plans for novel architectural endeavors.  I come from a family of construction, architects, and interior designers.  My grandparents had 100 acre gardens cultivated for city weddings and events.  This is such a joy for me to build upon collective experiences growing up but with an entirely different perspective on ideas like 'natural' and 'sustainable'.  For me, the great test of simple living is cultivating dwellings that not only are earth friendly, but that are enduring with minimal input and upkeep.  This means designs slated which will never need roof replacements or updates to electric systems as technology changes.

As for my vision, I want to create a sanctuary for creatives and crafters with long-term rentals.   I would love to partner with others who like to get their hands dirty to build this out as we all will get to explore new building materials templated for the site.

I can be reached at hippocratic29@gmail.com
