Black Solider Fly Larvae and Avocados

At Growing Futures Kenya we have been having a lot of success with growing black solider fly larvae in rotten avocados. In a week the whole avocado turns into a huge writhing mass of larvae. I see very little writing about how awesome avocados are for black solider fly larvae. From my experience I can't recommend it enough if you want a good source of fat and protein and are wondering what to do with your stinky avocados that won't compost. Avocados also produce FAR more larvae than the food scraps I have always read about. Below is our avocado pit and corn stalks for more insect production. That is interesting. We eat a lot of avocados and some go bad. I will try this when the weather is warmer. Does the pit and skin get consumed or broken down as well? That seems to be what sticks around the longest. I understand chickens either do not like or avocados are bad for chickens. The scraps from the fruit still make it in our compost pile and nothing bad has happened so far.

When I lived in Ecuador we had an avocado tree and also gave our rotten ones to the BSF pit. Much the same restults. I found they also loved citrus waste from squeezing fresh orange juice.
