Indoor seed starting Techniques

I would love to see what techniques permies are using for indoor seed starting for a small-scale backyard garden. I have experimented with lots of techniques. I'm curious to see some set-ups that folks have, particularly seed starting mixes, seed tray configurations, lighting configuration, heating mat use, and watering techniques. I'm using 288 cell plug trays under fluorescent and CFL lights, with a soil mix of 2 parts compost, 1 part vermiculite and 1 part peat. I find that if I don't keep up with watering they can dry out very quickly. I haven't seen a thread on indoor seed starting, ans if I missed it, I apologize. thanks!

So a bit more detail.

I was going to do winter sowing with the tomato seeds that are in the blog post. But, I got slacky about putting them outside and they germinated indoors in 2 days. So now they are just hanging out indoors. So the plan with the other seeds is that they'll germinate quickly because they are in the bags. Then when they get established enough I'll cut the egg cartons and plant them in toilet paper tubes similar to the blog tomatoes.

The Safflower is planted in a plastic container that ravioli came in. So I'm a planting recycler type!

And in another post I was asked about mold issues with the paper products. I did have that issue the year before but this year it hasn't been an issue. I think it's because I'm not watering as much as I did last year.
