I bought a pot of ornamental four leaf clover called Dark Dancer and was wondering if it would be a good idea to use it as a ground cover in my flower beds. I like that it would be able to fix nitrogen and was thinking that it could probably be sheared several times during the summer to increase the soils biomass. Any opinions? Has anyone done this already with a white clover and what were your results, good or bad? How does clover 'play' with other plants, is it a bully or does it get along?
You can plant it as a ground cover in your flower beds, it should look quite lovely like that. Be sure to read up on the white clovers (this is a variety) most of them do quite well with a hair cut now and then, just be sure to not go to the ground when you shear it off. The nitrogen it fixed will then be released back to the soil as it decomposes. Most clovers play well with taller others, not so much with other plants that it can shade.
