Hi everyone,

I've been consulting these forums for some time and have found a great deal of useful information here. I decided I should finally sign up and join in.

I live in upstate NY (zone 5), on heavy clay at about 1200 feet elevation. My lifelong interest is in low-maintenance/feralizing edible plants, herbaceous perennials especially. I've kept chickens on a small scale for years (currently ten - Buff Orpingtons and Speckled Sussex), and this year I’ve begun my adventure as a beekeeper. We'll see how long that lasts... Mere days after installing the nuc, we had our first-ever black bear visit; he fortunately missed the hive and tore open the chicken coop instead. Luckily I chased him off with no casualties among the hens - he was eating their food. The next day I installed plenty of electric fence. I hope it does the trick.

I'd like to thank all of you involved here for the excellent advice provided on these pages, free of charge. I hope that whatever contributions I can make will serve as a kind of repayment for the value I’ve received.

Thank you. As for pictures, I'll have to figure out how that's done. I know I saw a thread about it here somewhere, so I'll give it a try some time soon.
