We parked under a tree in LA that had interesting fruits. No idea if it's edible. I picked up a few from the ground. The fruits are bright red and have one seed.

I didn't take a picture, but I found it on google earth. I don't know if it's the smaller tree closer to the road or the bigger one in the yard.

Here's a link in google earth, in case you want a little different look.

Is that enough for anyone to help ID the tree? I'd like to find out what it is, whether it's edible and whether it'll grow here.

Can you get a leaf of the plant?

Not anymore. It's in LA and I'm back in SW Missouri.

Maybe you can use google earth to zoom in on the tree enough to get a picture of the leaves and bark.  Without that there may not be a way to ID.

I found some on Pinterest that looked like your fruit though there is no way of knowing if it is the same:

Miracle Fruit, Synsepalum Dulcificum

Are the seeds oblong?  What does the fruit taste like?

Plant the seeds and see what you get.

Those google earth images are zoomed all the way in. I may not be able to ID unless the seeds germinate.

Wow, that really does look like a match. How cool would that be?

Not knowing if it was edible, I was afraid to taste. Plus I only collected what fell, I didn't take any from the tree. It didn't seem like a good neighborhood to take things off the ground and put them in your mouth. Kinda dirty with trash around. (Besides which, as far as I can tell, there are no public restrooms in LA. Some places have one for customers. Crazy what goes through your head before tasting a strange fruit, huh?)

Actually planted before posting my picture. I'll post if they come up.
