For some reason I couldn't see your post for quite a while. I could see a reply was supposed to be there but couldn't actually see the post.
Anyway, that price will be for bare-root seedlings. I'm sure if they were more established the price would be substantially higher. Honestly I was a little surprised at the price. I was expecting about double.
Anyway, I figure the more chestnut trees growing the better. Only downside is I won't be able to enjoy working with the lumber from these trees, but my great-grand kids might, if
enough start to be grown over the coming years. If I had capacity in my plan for more than a few chestnut trees I'd be getting more, but I want a definite
polyculture of trees on my property. Hazelnuts, walnuts (if there's a cultivar that will produce well here), maybe some others for nut production. Lots of different fruit trees (
apple, pear, peach, cherry, etc). Plus the
native maples, alders, and various conifers and cedars.
