I have an order for 5 American Chestnut seedlings to pick up in November from Washington Chestnut Company.  I’m very happy to increase the order for local permies that want some.  I’m in Skagit county.  Washington Chestnut Company is in Everson, which is close to the Canadian border.  I’ll pick up any trees in the order but would prefer folks come to my place to pick up, or at least to not have go any further south than Everett to meet folks to hand over the trees.  Any Whatcom county folks I can meet either at the seller, or on my way home.  My price from them is $8 each right now.  If we cross some bulk threshold for a lower price we all benefit.  I’m not going to make a penny off this.

Edit to update title.

that seems like a very good price actually. genuine American chestnuts are not easy to find.
dustan seedlings from chestnut hill nursery, where dr dustan moved the new variety he created, sells seedings starting at $25 each.
I was offered some genuine American chestnut trees from a research program but before accepting more trees want to be sure the 500 or so I have already will survive and thrive.
plus someone offered to buy my place and the future is uncertain for me.
in case you don't know I'm bullish on chestnuts.
according to some experts, before the blight,, 25 percent of the forests in eastern united stated were comprised of chestnut trees. before they started getting cut down for lumber some of the trees were huge, 15 or more feet wide at the base and straight and tall, hundreds of years old. there were many people that had a diet that included a good percentage of chestnuts in it.

For some reason I couldn't see your post for quite a while.  I could see a reply was supposed to be there but couldn't actually see the post.

Anyway, that price will be for bare-root seedlings.  I'm sure if they were more established the price would be substantially higher.  Honestly I was a little surprised at the price.  I was expecting about double.

Anyway, I figure the more chestnut trees growing the better.  Only downside is I won't be able to enjoy working with the lumber from these trees, but my great-grand kids might, if enough start to be grown over the coming years.  If I had capacity in my plan for more than a few chestnut trees I'd be getting more, but I want a definite polyculture of trees on my property.  Hazelnuts, walnuts (if there's a cultivar that will produce well here), maybe some others for nut production.  Lots of different fruit trees (apple, pear, peach, cherry, etc).  Plus the native maples, alders, and various conifers and cedars.

You can also get them from burnt ridge for that price or cheaper. They have American, as well as other types, including hybrids

By the time I pay for shipping they'll be as costly or more so.  But for anything I can't get more locally they're on my list already of places to shop at.
