I'm just throwing this out to see if anyone has recommendations for larger tomato varieties that are impervious to white flies? My dad has been battling their invasion for years now, and has tried all the known tricks to rid the garden of them, even placing mylar over the soil. He has tried some of the more popular heirlooms years ago as a curious novelty, but always falls back on the common hybrids from transplants such as Early Girl, Big Boy, Better Boy, etc. I haven't yet convinced him of growing his own locally adapted variety, but if I knew of any similar "sandwich slice" sized juicy red tomatoes that can also be
hot water bath canned, it would go a long way to starting the conversation. I suggested this past winter that he give up on tomatoes for a few years to interrupt the cycle, but they go through a minimum of 12 plants' worth of canned tomatoes a year. I'm open to doing the seed starting for him so that he can just plant the "transplants". However, I don't know if such a variety exists. We've allowed volunteers to grow in the past, and while they produced medium fruits, they were highly acidic...too acidic. Ideas?
