Hi all,

So happy I stumbled upon this forum. I hope to connect here with some likeminded people.

My boyfriend and I are from the Netherlands and currently still live here. We both want a more rural life but there isn’t much of that in this small and crowded country. We actually searched for another property here, less urban than the current one we own, but the housing crisis with prices rising rapidly even in the outskirts was the last little push we needed to decide to just leave. We plan on moving to Spain in 2023, rent a house first and from there search for the right place and property. We have been learning Spanish every single day since April and looking into Spanish rules and regulations

I had already been growing vegetables, canning food and cooking more and more from scratch the last few years. My health issues (me/cfs) made me realise I had to make some changes. I started with cutting down on added sugar and highly processed food. By now I have added fermenting food to the list, learning about medicinal herbs and I am moving away from square foot gardening into something more sustainable because my harvest wasn’t much this year. I started googling and searching YouTube because of that and stumbled upon permaculture. I have a whole lot to learn but I did immediately buy straw and mulch the garlic in my garden  (I haven’t done any mulching up to this point, feeling quite ignorant now) and I have a nice compost tumbler now.

In Spain I would really like to build a vegetable garden, a fruit forest and have chickens and rabbits to start with. Bees and dairy goats are high on the list too. Obviously it also depends on where in Spain we will end up. The climate and altitude differs in different areas.

Reinier, my boyfriend, thankfully is pretty good with construction, electricity, engines etc. and not afraid to just google and give it a go. I am pretty sure we can build a more resilient life together.

Oh sure, it's a tiny ad, but under the right circumstances, it gets bigger.
