Wassup fam,
Long time lurker, first time poster.
About us:  Ski town refugees on 40ac down in the lowlands at 6800' zone 6b. The obscene wealth and complete gentrification of a once pleasant mountain town turned lord of the flies trust funder circle jerk was too much to handle.
Got out while the gettin' was good.
Decided less was enough. Becoming as energy and food sovereign is a priority, as is living in a way that honors our mother earth and the collective of life.  We have no children, but need to be able to look our nieces and nephews in the eye, and ourselves in the mirror as we bear witness to exponential nonlinear climate disruption.
Bought a neglected, but workable one bedroom house with a small orchard and two large greenhouses. We've got a well and a domestic water tap that delivers via gravity one quart per min 24/7.  (thats 360 gal/day, 2500gall/week)
Mostly Pinyon and Juniper, about 15ac. cleared for pasture, but needs some work.  We border an 80ac BLM inholding with a canyon and small creek in the bottom.
In the 3 years since we've moved here we have:
Added mud room and wood stove
Fixed some but not all irrigation
Added grape arbor
Replaced and added trees to the orchard
Goat pen
Chicken yard

Currently winter projects include:
- a guesthouse / in-law shack.
-standing dead, thinning. (need a logging donkey or similar)

Future projects:
too many to list ....
3rd dwelling
PV for main house
water redundancies.

Peace.
Ralph

Ralph, welcome to the forum!

That is a nice place you have and I can tell you have put a lot of work into making it work.

I am looking forward to hearing more about the place and any questions you might have.

Hey Ralph, I'm new here as well and I am also on the western slope of Colorado  ( 4 corners area  ) . I have 60 acres @ about 7300 ft. Am a prepper and homesteader going on 10 years now, completely off grid. We should connect if we are close enough to one another
Take care and good luck as this is rough country

Hello Rob,

Ah, Egnar ( range spelled backwards for anyone not in the know ), I like that country. I used to spend some time down in the west end when I was younger. Paragliding in the Big Gypsum valley, hunting over by the Lone Cone, and of course floating the Dolores, until its narrow window became an infestation of every breeding pair of yuppies with a raft in the state.

We are located between the Black Canyon and the windward edge of the West Elks, Crawford Country.  After a decade of snowmobiling half the year to our cabin in the high country (10'500), it's nice to not be wading in snow and have a real growing season.  Funny, when we were "off- the grid" we used soooo much more fuel to live than we do now.

Thanks for reaching out, thats whats up.

Peace.
Ralph

Holler if you ever get up this way.
