Looking for some ideas for a microclimate for banana trees. The variety I got is dwarf Orinoco which says from 7b to 8a on the cold side. I’m theoretically 8b but winter is weird. How would you go about trying to hold some extra heat? My first thought was a small rock wall on the north side but open to any ideas.

Thanks

While I have no knowledge of what variety this banana tree was, our friends in Dallas, Texas had one just outside their back door.

I believe the tree was on the East side of the house where it got morning sun and on the south side where it was blocked from the north winds.

The tree even got a banana fruit one year.

Trees arrived a few minutes ago. Order from Florida hill nursery. Packed very nicely and no damage to the plants at all. Listed at 5-16”, I’d say they are 12-14” so on the upper end. Bananas grow fast so that really doesn’t matter much but most all trees I’ve ordered this year have been the exact low number.

So I would definitely recommend Florida hill nursery.

Time to go put them in the ground. This will actually be a nice experiment. I prepped one hole last year with bokashi but we never got around to ordering so we decided to get three and the two others had bokashi put in about 2weeks ago. Wonder if the fresh or the seasoned will win. (There all seasoned enough to use)
