Speaker needed for Wyoming Farmers Marketing Conference

I'm with the Wyoming Farmers marketing Ass. We do a conference every year for the last couple of years I've wanted to do a tract on permaculture. Something like Introduction to Permaculture. THIS IS THE YEAR!!! We need a speaker for this. I would really like to get Paul but I'm not sure we can afford him (you). We don't have a very big budgit. The conference is April 9-11 we need the speaker on sat. the 11th and it's in Casper. I anyone has any ideas or wants to do this I would sure like your input. Thanks

I recently started watching the Wyoming PBS Farm to Fork series and they seem to have found some good permies type folks to interview. Does it look like permaculture is catching on in Wyoming?

I have added this thread to a couple of other threads so it gets more visability. Hopefully we can find someone to speak for you. Can you tell us a little more about what you are looking for? How much time would they need to speak ? Places to stay etc.

Well thanks Elle ! I am a pretty shy, introvert in permies. In my younger years I did do some presentations about worm composting.

Thank you for your replies and for your help. I've been involved with the WFMA for the last 4 years and myself only learned about permaculture 2 years ago. And I have found we really need to teach our farmers about permaculture and the benefits from it. So what that's what I'm looking for is someone to explain what pemaculture is why it is important benefit them and the environment. I'm also open to any ideas. The tract is an hour I'm thinking maybe speaking 45 min. and have 15 min. Q&A. We will pay a fee and travel. It's at the Ramkoda in Casper. We also need a speaker for another tract for forest gardens , how to manage wild harvesting for sustainability.

I sent you a purple moosage. But since I am on my phone while traveling this weekend, I don't know if it went through to the right person.

I would be interested in "interviewing" for the gig by giving you and your association's committee a presentation. I know I am just another face in the crowd in the permaculture world. But I have been learning and practicing permaculture for 7 years or so. I have also spend quite a bit of time explaining permaculture to folks who have never heard of it and more important, Wyomingites who have never heard of it. I'd love to get more involved in promoting permaculture in the state and this would be a great place to help!

Let me know what ya think! I can provide references for both my knowledge and speaking ability. I also live in Cheyenne so I can make it up for the conference no problem. As a side note to any body living in southeast wyoming, it would be a lot of fun to get together one day for a permies rendezvous!

I think there is a great opportunity for permaculture to take hold in wyoming. Granted, it will have to adapt in a significant way in regards to technique compared to "traditional" permaculture techniques. The principle remains the same! And that opens up the opportunity for us all to innovate and become pioneers! And that comes with its own success and pitfall. But what a fantastic opportunity.

Anyhow, next time you are going through cheyenne we could meet up and disccuss at more depth over lunch or something!!

So excited to introduce some people to the permaculture world and all the good things it entails and also to network with folks and promote permaculture in the state.

NO Thank You Tate !!! I'm so excited to have you coming to speak at our conference. I'm really glad we found someone from Wyoming. I think knowing what we have to deal with here is real plus, and sometimes it's a hard sell.

We are still looking for a speaker for non-traditional farming, forest gardens, or sustainable wild harvesting.

I was looking forward to going to the conference but the boss changed my schedule to do some training, so I can't make it.

Sorry I haven't got back sooner. It Rained WooHooo !!! It forced me inside. The conference was Great... Thank you Tate and Christian. It was awesome to introduce permaculture at the conference. Tate and Christian did a wounderful job, they eased them into it so it didn't freak them out. Change is hard for people that have things a certian way for so long.
Next year we are having a joint conference with the Master Gardeners I'm going to work very hard to make sure we have more tracts with topics on permaculture.

Thanks again to Christian and Tate for the Awesome job, and Thanks to Miles for helping get hooked up with these guys....

We are already planning for the next conference as I said it's going to be a joint conference with the master gardeners. I think we got the seed planted in a lot of their heads I think it's really going to grow. I don't really know about the buss around the state. But I know there's a whole lot of people learning about it up here in Cody. Expecially about hugelkuluturs.
We have started a new project that I have been thinking about for the last 3 - 4 years. We have been getting quite the attention. I need to post the project on permies but haven't had time to sit down at the computer. It's a youth garden that is owned by the children of Park County. Don't know if you are on facebook ( i'm not a facebooker ) but we do have a faceook page. It's younghugelers it explans the hole project as of now. It seems to keep growing. Also we just had a Great article in the Cody Enterprise. It came out in Thursday the 14ths paper think can still see it online. We plan on using Matt Powers books to help teach the kids and the adults. My biggest thing is I need to go through a design course myself. I'll get sat down at this thing and get it posted soon.
