I'm with the Wyoming Farmers marketing Ass. We do a conference every year for the last couple of years I've wanted to do a tract on permaculture. Something like Introduction to Permaculture. THIS IS THE YEAR!!! We need a speaker for this. I would really like to get Paul but I'm not sure we can afford him (you). We don't have a very big budgit. The conference is April 9-11 we need the speaker on sat. the 11th and it's in Casper. I anyone has any ideas or wants to do this I would sure like your input. Thanks

Howdy Jr, so glad to see some more Wyoming folks showing up here!

And so glad to see farmers markets in Wyoming. http://wyomingfarmersmarkets.org/

I recently started watching the Wyoming PBS Farm to Fork series and they seem to have found some good permies type folks to interview. Does it look like permaculture is catching on in Wyoming?

I have added this thread to a couple of other threads so it gets more visability. Hopefully we can find someone to speak for you. Can you tell us a little more about what you are looking for? How much time would they need to speak ? Places to stay etc.

Well thanks Elle ! I am a pretty shy, introvert in permies. In my younger years I did do some presentations about worm composting.

Lets see if we can find someone who really knows there stuff, I want Wyoming folks to be blown away!!

Ah well you were my only idea Miles. I'm not really aware of anyone else.

The Thomas brothers that were in the cattle forum maybe?

Thank you for your replies and for your help. I've been involved with the WFMA for the last 4 years and myself only learned about permaculture 2 years ago. And I have found we really need to teach our farmers about permaculture and the benefits from it. So what that's what I'm looking for is someone to explain what pemaculture is why it is important benefit them and the environment. I'm also open to any ideas. The tract is an hour I'm thinking maybe speaking 45 min. and have 15 min. Q&A. We will pay a fee and travel. It's at the Ramkoda in Casper. We also need a speaker for another tract for forest gardens , how to manage wild harvesting for sustainability.

Jr

I sent you a purple moosage. But since I am on my phone while traveling this weekend, I don't know if it went through to the right person.

I would be interested in "interviewing" for the gig by giving you and your association's committee a presentation. I know I am just another face in the crowd in the permaculture world. But I have been learning and practicing permaculture for 7 years or so. I have also spend quite a bit of time explaining permaculture to folks who have never heard of it and more important, Wyomingites who have never heard of it. I'd love to get more involved in promoting permaculture in the state and this would be a great place to help!

Let me know what ya think! I can provide references for both my knowledge and speaking ability. I also live in Cheyenne so I can make it up for the conference no problem. As a side note to any body living in southeast wyoming, it would be a lot of fun to get together one day for a permies rendezvous!

Thanks Jr!

Miles,

I think there is a great opportunity for permaculture to take hold in wyoming. Granted, it will have to adapt in a significant way in regards to technique compared to "traditional" permaculture techniques. The principle remains the same! And that opens up the opportunity for us all to innovate and become pioneers! And that comes with its own success and pitfall. But what a fantastic opportunity.

Anyhow, next time you are going through cheyenne we could meet up and disccuss at more depth over lunch or something!!

Thanks miles!

NO Thank You Tate !!! I'm so excited to have you coming to speak at our conference. I'm really glad we found someone from Wyoming. I think knowing what we have to deal with here is real plus, and sometimes it's a hard sell.

We are still looking for a speaker for non-traditional farming, forest gardens, or sustainable wild harvesting.
Anyboy have any ideas?

Miles Thank You for your help.

THIS IS SO COOL !!! We're going to be promoting permaculture at the Wyoming Farmers Marketing Conference.

Anyboby that wants to come to the conference your more than welcome.

I will let you know when registration opens

Tate, we should do coffee sometime. I'd love to see what you are doing as well. Wyoming seems so stale I always like being surprised with people who are moving forward here.

Looks like you might have already found a speaker for the event, but if you are still looking for others, I would be open to it.

Hi Jr.
Miles Flansburg gave me your information and said I should contact you about a speaking opportunity for the Farmers Market.
My name is Christian Shearer, and I have been teaching permaculture Design for the last 8 years, and now live in Driggs, Idaho. My wife and I are starting our homestead / education center here, and will be hosting our first design course this summer on this piece of land. You can see it here: www.higherE.org

I also do permaculture consulting as a living, but find that teaching is where I thrive.
I am available for speaking events and would be happy to share my inspiration for permaculture design with the Casper community, as well as to make connections there.
If you want to get a sense for who I am, I was recently in a documentary about permaculture. You can see that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cr10nOm0xU

Please contact me at: christianshearer1@gmail.com if you are interested in having me out.
Thanks for what you do.
Christian Shearer

Just in case either of them can't make it for any reason, please let me know. I have 15 years experience teaching, and although I don't teach permaculture, I'm very passionate about it and have been since 2005.

Howdy Roger, welcome to permies!

Maybe you have time to drive up to the conference and make some connections?

Permaculture since 2005? How about starting a project thread to show us what kinds of things you have been doing there?

Well, howdy, Miles! I do plan on attending the conference and look forward to meeting all the permies I can. Very exciting!
I'll think about starting a thread, but right now I don't feel comfortable putting pictures of my home on the Internet.
I hope to meet you in April!

I was looking forward to going to the conference but the boss changed my schedule to do some training, so I can't make it.

I drive through Cheyenne once a month on the way up to my place over by Rawlins, ( here is my project thread.. https://permies.com/t/27935/projects/Miles-Wyoming-Gulch ) and maybe we can all get together for lunch there in Cheyenne sometime.

No problem about posting pictures, I totally understand that.

Hey Everybody
Sorry I haven't got back sooner. It Rained WooHooo !!! It forced me inside. The conference was Great... Thank you Tate and Christian. It was awesome to introduce permaculture at the conference. Tate and Christian did a wounderful job, they eased them into it so it didn't freak them out. Change is hard for people that have things a certian way for so long.
Next year we are having a joint conference with the Master Gardeners I'm going to work very hard to make sure we have more tracts with topics on permaculture.

Thanks again to Christian and Tate for the Awesome job, and Thanks to Miles for helping get hooked up with these guys....

Hi Miles
We are already planning for the next conference as I said it's going to be a joint conference with the master gardeners. I think we got the seed planted in a lot of their heads I think it's really going to grow. I don't really know about the buss around the state. But I know there's a whole lot of people learning about it up here in Cody. Expecially about hugelkuluturs.
We have started a new project that I have been thinking about for the last 3 - 4 years. We have been getting quite the attention. I need to post the project on permies but haven't had time to sit down at the computer. It's a youth garden that is owned by the children of Park County. Don't know if you are on facebook ( i'm not a facebooker ) but we do have a faceook page. It's younghugelers it explans the hole project as of now. It seems to keep growing. Also we just had a Great article in the Cody Enterprise. It came out in Thursday the 14ths paper think can still see it online. We plan on using Matt Powers books to help teach the kids and the adults. My biggest thing is I need to go through a design course myself. I'll get sat down at this thing and get it posted soon.

EVERYBODY HAVE A GREAT MONDAY!!!
