I have about 3 acres of sun flowers planted 20 miles NW Ft Worth Texas have not seen any honey bees on them this year. I work in DFW area and haven"t seen any on the mesquite trees or any other plants.
I have 20 ft / 80 ft white clover patch in east Texas very few on it but do have one wild hive close to it.
any response/ comments is welcome but I won"t be on the net but once or twice weekly so any answers might be slow.
I haven"t been success in capturing any with traps or hives.
My question would be any one in DFW area have or seeing any bees.

Each week at the farmer's market we put a bouquet of flowers on the table. We do it as a conversation starter, and to keep things from being boring with the same old vegetables every week. Today's bouquet was oyster plant seed heads... All day long, people kept saying to us over and over again "I've never seed those before". It was all we could do to keep a straight face... They are one of the most widespread wildflowers in our valley. They are currently going to seed all over everywhere. In the flowerbeds, along the sides of the road, in every vacant lot. The whole valley is filled with oyster plant seed heads today.

Most often when people tell me that there are no bees, it ends up being an issue with observation. The observer didn't stay in one place long enough and quiet enough to notice what was actually going on with the bees. How many species of native bees were present? If the honeybees weren't visiting sunflowers or mesquite, then what plants were more popular? It seems to me, that honey bees are most interested in flowers that produce nectar, and not much interested in plants that produce only pollen. I rarely see honeybees on sunflower. Mostly I see solitary bees on sunflower.

I see quite a few honey bees on sunflowers. seems to be one of their favorites, despite being sticky enough that they often lose limbs or wings. but my climate and local flora are drastically different than either Joseph's or jimmy's.

I've noticed a very sharp decrease a few hundred miles to your west also, asked my brother who works for the city utilities dept., they have had a decrease in bee calls. Been contemplating taking up beekeeping just to have some more around to complain about.😉
