I am thinking that we could gather at a restaurant, or somebody's house, or a park .... maybe even a beach.

Paul! I would come down to see you but we have reservations for the Galiano ferry to spend a couple days w Eli's family. My out of town guests will be here Sun - Wed. Any chance you will still be in SEattle on Wed or later? If so, I'll come down.

Maybe somebody has a huge space and a massive garden and can handle 20 people. That sounds best.

Or maybe somebody has a restaurant - and that would be cool.

Or, maybe we could all gather at golden gardens and have a big bonfire and a mountain of snacks.

But I am thinking that the gathering should be not too far away from the seattle area.

Our current plan is to head back to montana on sunday. We did think there might be a chance to go back on monday and spend sunday doing fun things. But I don't think we can push it farther than that for now.

I'm surprised we haven't seen you, Eli and Jam in montana yet.

Hi Paul,

I'm a new Permie convert, but would be happy to host you! Unfortunately my garden is tiny and in the middle of conversion, but if you're around the Central District it would be an honor to have you by for a visit.

I know you've visited the Beacon Food Forest before, but that may be a nice place to gather, no? Though a bon fire in Golden Gardens does sound nice. Seward park is a nice old growth forest to gather in as well. If you'd like I can try to arrange a reservation? May be tough on short notice, but worth a shot.

I'm sure you have good connections in the area, but if all else fails I'd be happy to help in whatever way I can!

Will be on mainland Saturday in the Puyallup area and can travel around before / after. I might be tardy / leave early but will be wherever is decided.

For some reason I can't figure out how to reply to your reply, i'm technologically challenged. We will come to Montana, we actually were just talking about this last week. It just seems daunting to go that far in a car w a 1 year old strapped into a carseat ... but it will happen. In the meantime, let me know if any of your neighboring lands come up for sale.

Hi Paul,
I'm brand new to permies, have been listening to your podcasts everyday ( you are my commute buddy) since I stumbled on your website a few weeks ago. I would be happy to host a potluck or something on Saturday. My house is small but I have a big back yard. It would be a pleasure to hang out with you and a bunch of other permie folk.

Hi Paul,

I was wanting to hear that you would be traveling by car from Seattle to points south. Then I'd offer room for everyone at my place in Kalama, WA perhaps mid week.
Well, the offer still stands! There are some good Permie-heads around here that would love and benefit from meeting up. Heaven knows I sure could!

'ppreciate it.

Hey Paul, check out the beautiful Kubota Japanese Gardens in south Seattle/Renton, it makes a great place to meet and there are awesome and inexpensive Asian restaurants in the surrounding neighborhood too. It was started in 1927 and is very mature and beautiful now, a great place for observation and learning new things. It inspired me to think about doing a Japanese style food forest one day. I'm in Tucson now, but used to live down the street from it and it was my sanctuary when things got stoopid. Ohm... I love the place, it's like a botanical Candy Land, especially in Summer.

Here's the city link for it - http://www.seattle.gov/tour/kubota.htm here's the garden's main site - http://www.kubotagarden.org/news/

Enjoy!

Hi Paul, haven't been active on permies for the past couple years, but I'm finally in a place where I can think long-range again. Living on Vashon, as long as a meet-up is somewhere in the Seattle area, I'll be there.

Paul,
I will be commuting to your meetup from the north lands beyond the fire.....

Anyway, Alki Beach is kinda cool, its West Seattle. It's a great place to people watch.

Gasworks Park is cool but no beach. (Distant second for location)

Hope the Links work. Cheers.

We're a couple hours south, but we'd probably make the trek if this is something that comes together. We could possibly even host, but I'm guessing that the woods outside of Rochester is a little too far outside of the "Seattle area" to qualify.

Highly unlikely that we'll be able to make it just because of previous commitments and all but sure wish we could. I'll add Discovery Park to the list of places you might consider for a get together as, at least back in the day, it used to be fairly nice. Depending on your agenda you might even get a little "publicity" if you help a gathering in a public area. Personally, I think I'd rather just keep it a permie peeps but I already said I doubt we'll be going so, whatever.

One of the downsides of any park though is the prohibition against "adult beverages" so that may be something to consider. Or not. Just depends on the folks. Also, it may be a little damp this weekend (YEA!!!) which should not be off putting to anyone who is accustomed to the area but it is nice to have shelter just to keep any vittles dry.

Hope y'all have a great time!

Rat city!

Due to the time is approaching fast, I'm gonna make the executive decision that we gather at your place. Should we do something potluckish - with a focus on home grown produce? How does noon on saturday sound?

People can wear their overalls.

I can point at everything I hate about your garden.

For those people that have listened to nearly all the podcasts (like richard), we could ... maybe ... record a podcast.

Just make sure there is some sort of chair that will hold a giant guy.

Why yes sir! I am indeed in Rat City! Noon on Saturday it is! You can tell me all the things you hate about my "garden" if I get to tell you all the things I hate about my "garden". Let's just say I am using the term garden VERY loosely. We just moved to this house a few months ago and while in my delusional little brain I figured I would have a permaculture wonderland by now, what I actually have is a 1/4 acre of neglected property with a bountiful crop of knotweed and the start of a compost pile that is really sort of sad. Therefore I'm calling this my observing year : )

There is plenty of room for folks to hang out. I definitely have a chair you might enjoy, handbuilt Adriondack that is big and solid (my feet don't touch the ground when I sit in it and i'm 5'6").

I've got about 6 other chairs, so if a lot of people are heading over BYOChair if you've got extras.

Pot luck would be awesome and I will see if I can borrow a BBQ from one of my friends (don't have one yet because I want to build and BBQ/ Smoker and now that I've found your site I'm thinking Rocket BBQ/Smoker). If I do get a hold of a BBQ people can bring stuff to throw on the grill.

I've got a cooler to hold beer, sodas and such.

RSVPs for a head count?

Should I just list my addy and phone here?

Hmmmm .... maybe the thing to do is to say it is limited to 24. Invite people to purple moosage you, and then you send them your info. That way, you kinda have an idea of how many are coming and stuff.

Maybe it will be six. Maybe it will be 24. I think it is respectful to the host if the host has an idea of how many people are coming.

If you want to post your email address, you can do that instead. But if you want to get a "private message" from people without giving our your email address, this software supports something like that, only it is a "purple moosage":

We don't have 'private' messages. The closest we have is 'purple mooseages'. This is where you send a message to one other individual, and it is made available for all of the staff to see too, so they can forward it to their co-workers for a good laugh. But since you tend to write the world's most boring messages, the staff ends up rarely looking at yours. If you want something that might actually be private, you can try email

Umm, okay well, I just Purple Moosaged myself... heh, that's funny.

So let's try this.

Hi All,

If you would like to come to a potluck on Saturday, Aug 29th at around noon until whenever in White Center (South Seattle area), Purple Moosage me (Annalisa Giust) for my address and contact info. This will kind also serve as an RSVP as well so I get an idea of how many people to expect. Kids are welcome but please be aware that my yard is NOT child safe, it is currently a death trap (all kinds of constructiony stuff and lots of sharp pointy things) so you are responsible for their survival.

If you want to let me know what you would like to bring we can start a list so we don't end up with the All Zucchini-All the Time channel.

Let me know if you have questions.

Thanks,
Annalisa

Paul made the call for Annalisa's offer, as he was running out of time to make a decision.
Woodway would have been nice for our commute from Sedro Woolley.

I would love to come and meet Paul and other area Permies. I was feeling sorry that I was not going to the Permaculture Convergence in Portland this weekend, and was surprised at all the people in this thread who weren't. I live at Dragonbelly Farm near Port Townsend. I may be able to drive over, but it might also be good to be able to get picked up at the ferry dock. Will anyone be coming through downtown Seattle and be able to pick me/us up? I don't yet know if my husband wants to go. I did also write AnnaLisa.

Hi All,

Okay,

I am capping the RSVPs at 30 folks. If you have Purple Moosaged me you have received all of my contact info and such. It sounds like we are going to have a pretty amazing group and a pretty amazing selection of goodies to nosh on. I look forward to meeting you all, if you have a camp or lawn chair please bring it, cause currently there are more butts than I can seat!

You can Purple Moosage me if you have any questions. I will be running around like a crazy person tomorrow so if I don't get back to you via the forum or Purple Moosage (can you tell I am loving that term?) please text me and I will respond promptly if I am not driving.

We will have a grill available courtesy of one of our awesome attendees so if you want to throw something on the grill that will be available.

Anything I am forgetting? Noon start time to whenever, dress for weather, sounds like it might rain, I have two covered areas, patio and parking pad but we will be outside as my place is so not the TARDIS( hopefully some of you get it?), in other words, my place is way bigger on the outside than on the inside.

See you Saturday,
Annalisa
