The link worked ok for me - the post it linked to said

Daniel and I are currently editing away. We are recording voiceover stuff and what we call "lawn chair time" (where I sit in a chair and "bla bla bla").

We are including some footage from the recent rmh event.

We are currently thinking (as mentioned earlier) that we might have these ready about december 15 or so.

The post is higher up this page.

thanks for the help and yeah, when i click on the link it doesn't work for me but when i right click it i can open it in a new tab so i'm thinking my problem is Windows 10 related or more likely my ignorance to this new operating system, ...man, i want to make the jump to Linux, lol.

anyway, thanks again for the help and i'll just try to be patient, i've got all the downloadable 'candy' already so it's only the disc's i lack, ...it'll be awesome to get them for Christmas!

have a great holiday, Rick

high Cassie, i was wondering when the actual discs will be ready? ...i contributed $90.00 to the kickstarter speciffically so i could have actual discs so i'd have all the videos in hand, in case i find myself without internet or even a pc.

anyway, i thought the discs would be ready in Oct so i've been anxiously awaiting news that they were ready and being prepared for shipment to all who contributed to that level.

thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Care and Feeding of Rocket Mass Heaters (30 minute video)

I think this is the thread you need - https://permies.com/forums/posts/list/160/44266

thanks for the help, i'm not here as much as i ought to be so i'm still very much a noob in this community.

anyway, thanks again, Rick
good morning, i was wondering when the RMH discs would be coming out, i pledged $90.00 for the kickstarter so i could get hardcopy's of the discs and it's been some while now so i was just wondering when they'd be coming out.

You'll need to sign up but you can get a free trail which will give you enough time to watch it. I took his online PDC a couple of years back and there is nothing you'll miss from only seeing this one

Ollie

I haven't taken an in person PDC, but I have taken Geoffs online one. What do you think was missing from Geoff's? I'd like to know so I can look for an in person one that rounds out my knowledge.

yeah, i think what he means is that watching Geoff's 'Soils' video will give him the same information as the online PDC, he's not saying there is something missing, he's saying there is NOTHING missing.

...anyway, that's my take on what he said.

yeah, i don't know what the policy is so i won't post a link but if you do a search for 'earthship' you will find a link to Mike Reynolds's site where he has an interactive map of the US the show what he calls 'pockets of freedom' where alternative building techniques are ok because there are no codes.

...here is a copy i saved from maybe 4 or 5 years ago that shows the pockets of freedom, aka county's without building codes, in green and those countys that are too restrictive in red.

...yeah, i'm not seeing the picture so i think maybe it's not uploading but you need to go to Mike's site for an up to date map anyway.

Ed Zaborski wrote:Finally succeeded... I think. It is not Erica Wisner's Rocket Mass Heater Manual, "20 pages of assistance on building the rocket mass heater". It is actually 32-page Chapter 4, Operation and Maintenance, of Erica's 2013 Rocket Mass Heater Builders Guide. Size is 16,936 KB. On first glance, it looks useful, once you've got your rocket built. Will have to wait for the kickstarter candy for detailed building info, I guess. Well, back to the maple sap! Cheers, everyone!!

...yeah, ditto to that, after reading others posts i went on a mission this AM and after maybe 6 or 7 downloads i finally got a working copy and like you i got the file starting with Chapter 4.

peace, Rick
i've downloaded the file for the RMH manual 3 times now over the course of the last couple days and each time i've gotten the same error message telling me the file is un-openable, i didn't note the exact wordage but that's the jist of it that it won't open, ...it seems i'm not the only one suffering this issue which is at least some comfort, it's good knowing i'm not alone and that the problem isn't my machine.

thanks for all your efforts in trying to get this squared away.

peace, Rick

If you cannot add some extra light (full spectrum lights are best), you could try putting some aluminum foil behind them to reflect more of that light towards them.

yeah, here's a piece of an article on reflectivity that shows that aluminum foil would not be the best choice for this.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aluminum Foil:
Aluminum foil is no more than 55% reflective - if used, make sure that the dull side is the one that is used to reflect the light. When it becomes creased its reflectivity is even lower (around 35%.) It is also very dangerous to use because it creates hotspots easily, is electrically conductive, and is a fire hazard when it is in close contact with HID lighting. Attaching this to walls is a pain and usually using aluminum tape or glue is the best way. This should only be used as a last resort, and even then its usefulness is questionable.

...a better choice would be something white, for the inside of a cold frame my favorite is elastomeric white paint.

....................................................................................................................................................................

Elastomeric paint (info by furun)

A rubberized roofing paint with 90% reflection. Good for growboxes. Mildew resistant. Highly reflective.

Kool Seal White Elastomeric Roof Coating ~ $15.00 (1 Gallon)

Ultra high reflectivity
Forms a rubber-like blanket that expands and contracts
Adheres to almost any surface (very good on wood and metal)
