looking for an assistant - paid gig

The time has come. I need to hire a full time assistant.

For all the things in my head right now, it would take 100 people ten years to complete. And the list is getting bigger. Too big. The stuff that HAS to get done this week cannot possibly be done by one person in a month.

I need somebody where I can send an email to ask to have something done and I will (usually) get an immediate response that says "I'll have it done in an hour" or "I've added it to the to-do list about halfway down". I guess that's the most important part of the job - is that I can turn a task over and know it will be done and done well.

I need somebody that is willing to learn internet stuff and is willing to make/receive phone calls.

I like the idea of somebody with a creative brain that can think of things I have not yet thought of.

It would be great to have somebody that can coordinate between the dozens of people that are helping with all of my projects.

Definitely a list person. Somebody that can keep a ten page "todo" list, all sorted in priority order. And another list of ideas. And maybe five other lists.

It would be great if this person had some HTML savvy and maybe some social network savvy. And maybe some image editor savvy - although that is not required. Some writing skills would be nice too.

This is a job that can be done from anywhere on the planet. You can even do it while traveling.

So this is not a clear cut repetitive job. This is a job that will have lots and lots of really boring things to do, and all new sorts of boring things will pop up every day. And along the way there might be some interesting things too.

The pay would start off as lame. But if such a person can help figure out how to monetize the empire (within my comfort zone) there is opportunity for higher pay.

Interesting. I doubt there are too many permies who are very knowledgeable in the SEO/IM/copywriting/monetizing space.

Initially how lame would the pay be? 12 dollars an hour? 75 cents an hour? Or will you pay by project?

Also, I work part time, about 20 hours a week. So I would still be willing to give you a solid 40 hours a week, but not always exactly when you need them (although now I'm thinking you probably want way more than 40 hours). Is that a dealbreaker right there?

Good questions.

I guess the exact pay is gonna depend on whether the person already has awesome skills or not.

Currently, with a parade of volunteers, I can ask for help with a task and it actually gets done about ten percent of the time. So I end up asking several people several times and end up doing it myself about 60% of the time. And, at the same time, sometimes a volunteer does something way better than I would have ever thought of. So cool!

Some people will need me to teach them how to do lots of stuff. Some people will already know those things better than me.

As for hours: It is possible that the person will be in some country on the opposite side of the planet, and thus sleeping while I'm up. And other things in life going on. There is certainly room for flexibility. The thing I could really use right now is that I send out an email and I know that it will be done (as opposed to the current process where there is only a 10% chance).

True. So I there will be some time spent in getting up to speed.

Hello Paul,

I could be available if the compensation was adequate. I do have html, php, javascript, network administration, SEO, Social Networking, online marketing, image editing, printing, audio editing, recording, online broadcasting experience, photography, writing, agricultural knowledge and experience , construction, heavy equipment and a lot of other skills than I can list here without taking more time than is realistic for an initial response. Monetizing is merely the principal of converting ideas into action instead of speculation. I think you have enough resources to monetize access to many of them without compromising any of your principals.

I am currently self-employed with two different web design/development/hosting operations that I run from home. One I manage for a salary and one is my own. I have been involved with the internet since before it was commercialized and when html was still just text, before images were supported. I have taught college courses, cowboyed in the deserts of Nevada, operated heavy equipment in gold mines, worked on the powder crew and blew things up there as well. I have chased and caught wild horses, grown gardens, crops, irrigated with lines, water cannons and flood. I've lived off the grid for years at a time and I also build chicken tractors for the backyard crowd and have recently been hired as a rural postal carrier, but it's only one day a week (relief position). I manage my time well and am looking to diversify my income even further than I already have. I wouldn't list anything as a skill unless I have a workable mastery of it and more than a passing experience in any category listed.

I would need a realistic idea of how many hours per month would be required and then we could negotiate from there. Relocation wouldn't be an issue if ever it was required. I have chosen to live in an Airstream motor home that I remodeled myself and currently have parked on a small, private acreage out in the countryside on the Oregon Coast where my fiancé and myself garden, raise a few chickens and live a peaceable, simplistic lifestyle.

So, in response; yes I already have awesome skills and experience. I am overly organized, prioritized, drug, drama, debt and issue free. I am results orientated and have a broad understanding of complex dynamic systems, excellent pattern recognition and analytical skills. I am confident in my abilities and think I would be a good fit as long as I get treated well for my efforts. Let me know if you are interested.
