Travel Ideas

Hi everyone.

I'm very interested in permaculture, Holistic management, sustainable gardening/farming/planning etc. you get the idea.

I am also really interested in Judo/SAMBO/Jujutsu. (I've been grappling for around a year now. Not really long at all!)

There is a club in Seattle that I would really like to train at. Really good coach and a really good environment.

I have no clue how I am going to get there. Currently I live in Southern California, on the coast by L.A.

I can do physical labor (as long as I don't have to deal with harmful chemicals or pesticides) and I wouldn't need to make a ton of money. Just enough for food, rent, and club dues.

I was hoping some people could offer some Ideas and we can hash them out and see if they might work?

I am not sure about a lot of things; however, I like to think that anything is possible! So here is a big list of resources, and as always, please be safe and use your own intuition before taking action. It is important to at least do something, but it can be worse to act without thinking than to do nothing at all. If you do opt for trying these ideas out, please post updates on this thread; I would love to see how things turn out.

Opportunities for volunteering:

World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms works like a work-exchange; volunteer some time and energy, and you get food, shelter, and experience.
Gappers is Paul Wheaton's opportunity for people to volunteer on the lab and aid him with his many on-going projects. This could eventually lead to a job or workshop discounts. Please be sure to read carefully.
WorkAway functions like a work exchange, too.
HelpX is similar to WWOOFing and functions about the same; just not as well-known.
Ecovillages is a global database of ecovillage projects.
Permaculture Projects is an interactive map of projects.

SharedEarth connects gardeners to land owners.
CashCrate is one of those paid survey sites, and here are two lists of them here and here.
Foap is a get-paid-for-photos app. Some similar apps/websites include iStock, ShutterStock, SmugMug, PhotoStockPlus, ShutterPoint, Fotolia, and StockXpert.

*********this is not an all-inclusive list; there are tons of things out there, and this list is just meant to be a starting point. I cannot stress this enough: use things at your own discretion! Do not let me or anyone else sway you into anything; It is up to you to do your research and stay safe.*******

You're welcome, and I would like to mention two more things; there are Bike Sharing programs out there as another travel option, and Etsy allows people to make things at their homes and sell them online.
Is that almond roca? Did you find it in the cat box? What is on this tiny ad?
