Anyone have a clue?? This tree has cherry like bark with prominent lenticels. The new growth is a pinkish, reddish color and their are some nectar glands on the leaf petioles.
I have to know what this is ... I've scoured Dirr and internet and attempted to use a key with no luck. Thanks, Brett

Thanks Dave!!! Looks like this is it... come to think of it there is a lot of moisture in that area.. There's probably about an acre of this grass along a bike path near my apartment.... folks have cut out little meandering
pathways all through it..... I even saw some beer cans in there once. Well now I know my enviroment a little bit more:)

I bike by this stuff on the way to school. Does anyone have any idea what it is......(I'm in Maine) If not I just got this book from the Google library called 'GRASSES OF MAINE' .... It's gotta be in there. Only
problem is that the book is pretty old and not very light reading. thanks, Brett ( this grass is about 8 ft btw..... )

I think alot of folks out there are familiar with Will Hookers 2003 permaculture course floating around out there. I was curious and wanted to see if he still taught there.
It turns out he still does.... and there is an updated course that you can stream from NC State!!! Here it is.... Will is losing his hair but he's still Will Awesome stuff.....

I'm in a horticulture program right now at a local community college. It's just a simple 2 year program but it's kind of set up ideally for generalist. It's a very broadbased cirriculum covering Woody plants, nursery operation, greenhouse management, surveying and mapping , soils , landscape design etc. I'm stoked about this because 1) it's only 8 grand 2) it's perfect for permaculture design 3) it's only a 2 year commitment. In your situation I would have to go with getting out of there. I think alot of folks who have replied to this are pretty spot on. If you want to be a permaculture farmer (what I want to do) then hang out with some permaculture farmers. I"m looking into long term lease and tenure options for farming as well. A very big obstacle for young aspiring farmers is lack of capital for start up and land cost. Long term leases and other tenure and stewardship arrangements are the solution to this problem. If we can get landowners excited about the prospect of them contributing to society merely by allowing vibrant, young permaculturalist loose on land then we have won.

Cool Jeanine ! That's an awesome idea. What about farm logos and farmers market posters to? I was actually thinking about water color as well... I was thinking it would compliment my future landscape design class great... and I could also use it in my permaculture farm designs in the future. Thanks for your input.

First off, I wanna ask everyone something.I'm planning on farming but I also want to do permaculture farm site designs on paper for a second income stream. Is this an in demand thing? I'm in a HORT program right now........ If I plan on doing designs, will these classes be useful??1) HORT-210 LANDSCAPE SURVEYING AND MAPPING 2) LANDSCAPE DEGIGN ......

Also for my Arts elective.... what do you guys think would be the most useful to take out of these?

I've just watched Robert Hart's forest Gardening video. Grasses are not mentioned in the different plant layers. Are grasses typically excluded from this setup???
