What classes to take????

First off, I wanna ask everyone something.I'm planning on farming but I also want to do permaculture farm site designs on paper for a second income stream. Is this an in demand thing? I'm in a HORT program right now........ If I plan on doing designs, will these classes be useful??1) HORT-210 LANDSCAPE SURVEYING AND MAPPING 2) LANDSCAPE DEGIGN ......


Also for my Arts elective.... what do you guys think would be the most useful to take out of these?

This may seem way out in left field but here goes:

Water color.

Years ago I used to sell little packages of notecards and envelopes. Didn't make TONS of money but it kept some pocket change coming in. Mine were just black and white pen and ink drawings.

The cool thing is that once you do a drawing you have it for life. Just take it to the printer and have more notecards printed up.

If you have any talent the color will sell a bit better than black and white.

I just finished taking my first watercolor class to learn how to use color. I'm planning for retirement and want to supplement my income (again) with notecards. I will print up the same black and whites I was selling 30 years ago and add a few color notecards.

I packaged them 5 cards and 5 envelopes to a package.

I am hoping to collaborate with some local farmers to let them pay the vendor fee on a table, I will sell thier products (leaving them free to be farmers) and my crafts can be sold at the same table.

Don't know if it will work or not but it is a plan.

Cool Jeanine ! That's an awesome idea. What about farm logos and farmers market posters to? I was actually thinking about water color as well... I was thinking it would compliment my future landscape design class great... and I could also use it in my permaculture farm designs in the future. Thanks for your input.

Ha! I was going to vote for metal arts... all the times I wished I had the knowhow to weld and fabricate tools and art from metal scrap, but I got a lot of art skills from my family...

I loved learning paper making in art school. You can use all kinds of plant materials, and do a ton of stuff with it with very little equipment. I've always tried to practice 2-d stuff outside of school and go for the things that you can use the schools equipment and the teachers knowledge for things that are harder to figure out on your own. good luck!
