I cannon do raw foods in the winter.  When the weather is warm about 50 percent of my diet is raw.  This is what works for me and roughly follows Ayurvedic principles for my body type.  Individual approaches to food are going to be more successful.  Experiment.

You will get new clothes.  Really got this once. How is it related to permies? Permies wear clothes.

Just to muddy the waters, here is my experience with mixing vinegar and baking soda.   In a really gross toilet bowl, I added them to the water in the toilet.  Got great bubbles and a super clean bowl below the water line without scrubbing.  Above the water line, even where the bubbles were, not much happened.  This rigorous scientific testing indicates that the combination of baking soda and water is more than simply water, at least in the initial phase.
Perhaps, the combination can be useful in limited circumstances, and if you are experimenting have water at the ready.

No one has mentioned shade cloth. Even with heavy mulching, I shade most of my garden in the afternoon when it gets over 90 F.
My experience with sunchokes seems to be different than others.  The more recently I pulled them from the ground, the less gas.   When eaten immediately, I have little to no gas , whether raw or cooked, peeled or unpeeled.  A week later, and it's not fun for anyone.  Has anyone else noticed this difference?

Since grease cutting with no purchased products is the goal, maybe the limonene is a key.  I 'm not this far along in my DIY yet so I''m not set up to experiment directly myself, but I have a couple of ideas.  I have a commercial degreaser that is made from orange seed.  Are citrus seeds the source of limonene?  There is a little bit of essential oil in rinds. Might rinds  blended well have some effect?

Not local solutuions, but I love thredup.com   and thriftbooks.com.  The first is an on line consignment for women's and kids' clothes and accesories, the latter, an on-line used book store.

In defense of strawberries

I haven't thought through the entire list, but it would definitely include everbearing strawberries.  I get big yields end of June and again in August, with at least a small handful 2x a week in between.  In October I put the strawberries under row cover and continue until November, occasionally December, when we get our our first really hard frost.  I live in zone 5-6.  Vertical systems keep the sq foot print to a minimum.

I love the Indoor Plant Day.

Plant seeds for an indoor, fits-on-the-window-sill garden.  Lettuce, cilantro, parsley do ok with weak winter light.
