Las Vegas Food Foresters

Hello!

I’m hoping to find some fellow US S. Western and Vegas people. I am building a seed collection of Paloverde, Moringa, and Acacia. I want to go on little weekend trips to find areas to plant some of these, and eventually, add Fig, Barbados Cherry, Guava, etc.

I’m sure you guys get it.... pioneer N fixers then fruiting trees. I grew up in AZ, out in the desert, walking for miles in a hundred degrees for fun. Ah, to be young again! Why is that important? Just that anyone who knows the desert can read where there is water. Nature tells you.... follow the sound of birds, they take you to a thick bunch of native trees, then look for the moss.... if you find moss, there’s water near the surface! And yes, you can find islands of moss, even in AZ and NV. It’s pretty cool!

My thought was some of us could go on hikes, find these areas, seed them with pioneers, come back a year later with hardy fruit trees, etc. I think you get the picture.

We could make tiny havens for animals, who would then spread the seeds. We’d build soil, too. And you never know who will stumble on the little oasis!

That is incredible, thanks for sharing! I think I've been to that canyon! :O I've had all kinds of fun watching desert floods.... from a distance. I respect the power of nature! I've seen it cut six foot deep washes in what was rock hard clay a day prior. I'm excited to be learning ways to slow and capture all that beautiful water.

That was my favorite trail to hike at Red Rock when I lived in Vegas

I live in Las Vegas, and have some raw land in AZ, about 2 hours away. I'm planning on starting a permaculture oasis in the desert! This spring will be my first year and I am planning out my pioneers now. Id love to chat. Message me :)

I  live in Bisbee,  AZ we have 66 acres with 2 large washes in th high desert.
We get tons of rain and wild mushrooms grow freely here .we bought our property sight unseen and we're thrilled to find a tiny Orchard when we got here.
We have about 25 pear trees, 13 eucalyptus, one sad little pomegranate that we're trying to save, 2 peach trees, 2 Chinaberry trees, and an Elderberry tree.
We would love to have you come visit and do a walkabout. We're trying to bring things back with natural water collection and directing the water with rocks and trenching.

I think I know a place. I have cousins out side Vegas. Ill be there in April to help planting melons. I gave one of them Ben Falks book ''The Resilient Farm and Homestead"

Can you give any advice on good area to buy a large desert plot to do permaculture project with Industrial hemp? I'm looking for 300 500 acres
,we can seed it all..
