Been a longtime lurker, and finaly getting to post my first questions. All excited.
I have a couple of expanded cork questions I hope someone can help me find answers to ? Expanded cork is supposed to be
water repelling, even impenetrable by water as some would argue. Plenty nice pictures
online of how it is used as raw boards, non covered boards both external and internal.
Is there a source showing the water transfer rating with regards to its use on the outside of a building (horizontal and vertical rain splashing onto it) ? Outside humidity getting inside the wall through the cork boards, causing potential rot of wall components ?
Is there a sourse showing the water/humidity transfer from inside the house when used inside a wall, or stuck onto an internal wall as isolation ? Inside humidity trying to get out the building.
I also wonder about its physical properties in a winter frost climate when used on the outside. Plenty of nice pics showing it being used pure, without coat, on the outside of buildings. It has pockets, rain can get into these pockets, and not dry, causing mechanical damage to the cork I guess with frost/weather wedging ?
I could not find any reference to these 3 topics online.
I'd also like to know if anyone used expanded cork as a humidity barrier in a bathroom setup to protect walls from temporary high humidity entering the walls? How does it turn out?
