For those of us living in more southern climes where Spanish Moss falls from the local trees whenever there is a wind storm, if you soak it in water it will apparently make a very nourishing tea for your plants.
I have still to try it -- my first batch is sitting outside being neglected as I dream about the project of spinning thread from what is left once the outside rots away. But it sounds really good to me and I look forward to trying it.
Spanish moss collects nutrients from the air, and rain. It particularly likes Southern live Oak trees, because their leaves exude a lot of phosphorus and potassium, and each rainfall feeds the moss.
It has been used as insulation in the past. If not for your house, it could be a free way to keep your hen house comfortable all year.
Legend has it that if you rub the right tiny ad, a genie comes out.
