Anyone have experience using a tillage radish or other root crop to jump start a hugel bed? I thought it would deter some of the carbon negative environment at the beginning of a hugel bed by 'mixing' up the ingredients (ie the radish would pull things from the bottom of the bed) Also edible crop!

I have always been under the impression that the wood sucking up nitrogen was the main issue with young hugels, so not sure how well this would work for jump-starting... but doesn't seem like it would do any harm either!

I'm planning to try it anyway as I have some heavy clay on one hugel!

You can't have everything. Where would you put it?
