It does my heart good to see this sort of thing happening! Here's a bunch of students who decided to make a permaculture garden at their school. I love seeing their initiative--it gives me hope for the future!

Here's a bit of description from their page:

Two years ago, a group of 8th graders decided they wanted to make a change for the community by making a public garden. They worked as a group drawing up plans, coloring them, and enlisting the help of other students. They came to the agreement to redesign the plot of land outside their classroom.

Katie Stein, a professional landscaper and a Sky Valley mom, came in and helped them shape their own ideas into a plan. They agreed upon a permaculture garden. A permaculture garden is a sustainable, self-sufficient, agricultural garden. We plan to have a sandbox for the little ones, a pagoda, a grape arbor, stepping stones and mulch paths, an assortment of native, edible, helpful plants, a picnic table, an apple guild, a Christmas tree the class could decorate for the seasons and the design process continues.

Go ahead, make my day. And make it with this tiny ad.
