Looking into growing asafoetida (Ferula assa-foetida.) It's an umbreliform, most of that family does berserk well here, that's my primary "weeds." Looking it up I see things like "The whole plant, especially when bruised, has an unpleasant smell like stale fish."  and "Gum resin obtained from the plant is sold as a garlic substitute, although the flavor and odor may be more pungent than some users might like."  Alliums are known to repel deer, anyone know if asafoetida along a fence would offend deer?
I want it for cooking and medicinal uses, if it annoys deer, that's a major bonus in my world!
Anyone know more about growing it than I do? Hint: Knowing more won't be hard, I have run one search and read under 10 web pages. From what I see, it ill grow nicely here (zone 6, lots of related plants already.)
Anyone have a good source for seed? Haven't gotten that far yet...
Thank you!!

:D
