Personally, I don't like using any paper products or
cardboard in or on my soil due to the glues and inks they are made with. Paul doesn't like to either.
Plus, I once lived somewhere where the previous resident had added shredded paper to the
compost and there ended up being shredded paper hanging from the
trees (!!) --from the birds carrying it away for nesting material. Which is amusing...for a second. Even without the help of the birds, it just blows around and looks like litter to me, making a place look trashy, literally and figuratively. Though I might have found someone elsewhere on the Internet who would use it their compost.
That paper log maker/press though...that is a sweet idea! Thanks Jesse!
This was a (hopefully) one time purge of decades of paperwork that I've been meaning to go through for years now and finally got around to it. Going forward, there will be far less shredded paper because most of my work is paperless these days.
For those with more shredded paper on a regular basis and a fireplace (I no longer have a fireplace or
RMH at my new digs in town), that paper log maker is really a "problem is the solution" strategy!
