My dog keeps diggin it up.

Ok folks I have a dachshund who thinks he is a backhoe. Yes, I know its the breeds natural instinct to dig after critters in the ground and that's what they were bred for butt.... this guy takes it to a whole new level. So far this week I have shoveled 3 heaping wheelbarrows full of dirt to fill his holes and I am only 2/3 the way across my yard. I did this last summer. Now I'm doing it again. The family is just too attached to him to get rid of him.

The up side is I have NO moles in my backyard. However, my backyard was starting to look like a well used mine field.

I thought of getting a shock collar and busting him every time he starts digging. Before I stooped to that I thought I would ask you all if you had any ideas of correcting this problem?

Maybe give him a specific part of the yard to dig in?
Thats what I did anyway. I started a big hole in an out of the way place in the yard and the dogs took to it and left the rest of the yard alone.

Some nice loose soil, maybe add some sand or something. Maybe even build a sandbox with landscape timbers.
