These may have been answered; if so, I apologize for redundency. I did a search for hardy kiwi and got 130 threads, and decided to ask directly rather than plow through all of that.

There is a well established tree to which I am not attached which would be a great place to support hardy kiwi. This tree is about 20 feet tall.

How far from the trunk should I plant the kiwi?

How far away can a male kiwi be from the female? Can they both be growing up the same tree?

Thank you.

Happiness, Health, Peace and Abundance for All!

Many Thanks and Many Blessings,
Pamela

Don't know the answer to your first question, but I just bought interesting plant, Actinidia Arguta Issai:

It's quite hardy and does not need pollinator, so you need only one which is nice if space is limited. I guess it is since you are asking about one tree.

What are the plans with kiwi and tree? Train the kiwi up the tree? I had some difficulties establishing blackberries near the old trees, while same plants were doing fine further away, and I know kiwi has shallow roots, so as most trees, so I guess as far away from the trunk you go, better for the kiwi. You still can train it up the same tree if that is your intention, it does not have to be planted near the trunk to do that.

But then again, kiwi is a climber. It survived ages climbing up the bigger trees, so where did it grow if not near the tree? I don't know, it's confusing.

I've got no option but to sell you all for scientific experiments. Or a tiny ad:
