Well, all of my brassica starts were in the ground minus my broccoli.
Seems one of the family pets had knocked the broccoli tray to the ground and they suffered permanent damage so I did the unspeakable.....
Went to a big box store and purchased a flat to get them in. I did not mind the limited variety or the large sized starts in the little trays.
After a few days I found them suffering and looking very sick. I did an experiment (with a few i did not plant in the ground) and mixed a very strong solution of compost tea and they perked up. (for a day or so).
I fed them again and they woke up again. I have now done the same thing in the garden bed and they are now perking up too.
I believe these things are raised on heavy doses of liquid feed on a daily bases to grow them as fast as possible. They are junkies.
They need to be weaned off if they are going to survive in my soil. My own seed starts are not a big as the big box store ones but they always do very good after they get going.
just some info that can maybe help someone buying starts from the big boys.
