I've been searching for something on Permies that lists phone apps and other software that people find useful with ratings. Surely there is such a thing, but I must be using the wrong search words to find it.

I'm trying out Hook Mountain's Sun and Shade Analyzer app (SASHA) that I'm finding useful. It's showing me that my assumptions about where I get the most sun are wrong. This is especially important as I try to figure out which old, declining pine trees to take out next. We've already had close to 50 trees removed between my landlord and myself (either paying someone to do it or me trying to deal with the smaller ones with my small B&D chain saw). This has cost a fortune, and now I'm trying to get a few more of the larger ones out so I can hope for a successful garden this year.

This is the app: https://tinyurl.com/y7g7v2rq

I'm interested in what others think, but I also wonder if there isn't a place somewhere on permies where various apps and their utility for what we do are not listed and reviewed and compared.

Not a listing of apps, but here's a little tip I've found helpful:  Before you decide to go with a particular app, search for "alternative to"+appname.

Directly visiting alternativeto.net is an (*ahem*) alternative way of accomplishing this as well.

Anderson gave himself the promotion. So I gave myself this tiny ad:
